
Murray was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, where his passion for art ignited early in life. He studied at Central Technical School’s Art Program and took evening classes at the Ontario College of Art, ultimately earning high honors in Computer Technical Illustration from Seneca College.
Beginning oil painting lessons at twelve, Murray developed a diverse portfolio across various styles and mediums. As a graphic artist, Murray worked for Canada’s largest sign manufacturer, a major Toronto designer of restaurant and hotel planning, and an international architectural design firm for multi-use projects.
In 1995, he moved to Hawaii, where he became president of the Association of Hawaii Artists, creating newsletters and organizing art shows. In 2005, Murray built his first scale model kit, elevating the craft with a stunning fantasy diorama. From 2006 to 2016, he inspired fellow art enthusiasts with his blog, www.surf-the-arts.com, sharing his artistic processes and experiences.
After Hawaii, he lived in the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia, then moved to Tigard, Oregon, and Boise, Idaho, crafting intricate models ranging from Japanese castles to sci-fi scenes and Warhammer game scenery.
Now in Ocala, Florida, he challenges his creativity by producing vibrant acrylics, watercolors and the detailing of high-end board game miniatures. with various acrylic paints.
